Last year, when SPACES opened at its new location in Ohio City’s Hingetown, the first project shown as part of its vault program was Astro Black by Australian two-person collective Soda_Jerk (currently based in New York), who combine documentary and fiction techniques in film, video installations, lecture performances and cut-up texts to explore the politics of images.
Now they’re coming back to Cleveland with their new work TERROR NULLIUS, which they’ll debut at Gordon Square’s Capitol Theatre in partnership with SPACES.
The new film is described as “a political revenge fable which offers an un-writing of Australian national mythology. Part political satire, eco-horror and road movie, TERROR NULLIUS is a world in which minorities and animals conspire, and not-so-nice white guys finish last. Where idyllic beaches host race riots, governments poll love-rights, and the perils of hyper-masculinity are overshadowed only by the enduring horror of Australia’s colonizing myth of ‘nobody’s land’.”
After the film, the artists will participate in an audience Q&A. Admission is $12.50; tickets can be purchased at Cleveland Cinemas.
