With the current president and the Republican-controlled Congress intent on gutting spending on everything but the military and the state of Ohio experiencing a tax shortfall and budget crunch, thanks to Governor Kasich’s tax cuts for the wealthy and his reckless spending of the last few years, the arts make an attractive target for funding elimination. It’s easy to depict them as a “frill” that government should not be paying for even though those in the know understand how much they contribute to society.

That’s why the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) is hosting a briefing and letter-writing session, taking place at SPACES new facility in Hingetown. Attendees will be provided with an update about what is going on, how local arts and culture organizations could be impacted and how people can help to pressure government to maintaining arts funding.

Ohio Citizens for the Arts executive director Bill Behrendt will talk about what is going on with federal funding and Trump’s proposal to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). His presentation will be followed by a period to write letters with guidelines about who to write to and what to say. The event is free and open to the public but you should register here.
