It’s audacious, but not unprecedented.
Cleveland Orchestra members have been playing in small venues on Cleveland’s near west side for about 3 years, since Joshua Smith, principal flutist for TCO, started presenting small ensemble work at The Happy Dog in 2010.
But nothing has prepared us for the sheer scale and scope of their upcoming residency, presenting 16 events at 14 different venues, from an ice cream parlor to a butcher shop, from a wine bar to a movie theatre, from a funky coffee shop to a huge Catholic church.

When Old Stone Church’s senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. R. Mark Giuliano, invited us to shoot a Cool Cleveland video inside their incredible Sanctuary, he lamented that previous attempts to capture the energy inside that magnificent edifice had failed.
So he invited us up on the pulpit to create our video on Sunday morning in the middle of his sermon in front of a full congregation. No kidding.

Dr. Darin Croft may have one of the coolest jobs in the world.
He’s a research associate at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and he helped prepare for their new exhibit “Megalodon: Largest Shark That Ever Lived.”
Listen to this interview as he talks about this fascinating and massive and prehistoric shark that lived for 15 million years and has been extinct for about 2 million years.
Have a look at their cool exhibit, with jaws of increasing size showing adolescent and mature shark jaws, and a huge display that allows visitors to actually walk inside this 60-foot long sculpture the size of Megalodon.
Also on display is “Sharkabet! A Sea of Sharks from A to Z,” an exhibition of fantastical but scientifically accurate paintings of sharks in action by artist Ray Troll. CMNH.org.

Dan Fernandez took advantage of an innovative program Tri-C has with Berklee College of Music in Boston. You can take classes at Tri-C, even in high school, and your credits will transfer. “All my Tri-C credits would transfer to Berklee, so technically, I would be going in there as a junior.”
“I applied to Berklee in Boston, and I got in.” But the networking opportunities that Tri-C offered him in Northeast Ohio changed his mind.
“I decided to stay in Cleveland. I got to know a lot of people while I was at Tri-C.” So this fall, he’ll be studying at Cleveland State University.

PHOTOSTREAM: Bal Ingenieux: A Decadent Night for IngenuityFest
The biggest fundraiser of the year for IngenuityFest got underway on 05.13.13 at the Halcyon Lodge in Ohio City with a costume ball for the ages. Celebrating Cleveland’s storied Kokoon Club (1913-1946) at which the regions artists hosted an annual Bal-Masque and scandalized polite society with nudity and provocation, all Bal Ingenieux visitors arrived either in costume, or were offered a mask. Electronic fairies, hi-falutin’ jazz ensembles, practically naked dancing men and some cool music and top-flight food & drink helped power the evening. Executive Director Paula Grooms”’ announced the dates & location of the 2013 IngenuityFest: September 20-22 at Docks 30 & 32 where the Fest took place last year. Mark your calendar!

In my youth Walnut , Vincent , and Chester around East 9th to East 12st constituted some lively turf. Erieview was along with the Terminal tower complex the largest desstructive forces to destroy urban flavor downtown. Surface parking is the real enemy in Cleveland, Ohio…
