New

Nothing new under the sun, but what’s old is new again. Our region continues to reinvent itself, and part of that reinvention is being cognizant of our assets.

Two of our hometown artists are ready to bring their illustrations to life in Ohio City, a neighborhood in constant reinvention. Soundbite Laureate Douglas O’Bryon reviews 2012 and explains why the world didn’t end, in case you were wondering. Check out below or on our mobile app for a great selection of NYE suggestions, from First Night Akron to Northern Soul at Mahall’s to a cool concert, as usual, at The Kent Stage. Some things never change.–Thomas Mulready

I mean, if the most noteworthy event of the year was a YouTube video of a portly, middle-aged South Korean dancing “Gangnam Style,” perhaps the Apocalypse IS (still) upon us, the prophecy has been fulfilled, and “PSY” was, in fact, the “cataclysm of destruction” the ancients warned us about…

VIDEO: Cody Knotts Enjoys His First Tri-C Alumni Event
“Great tuition and great opportunities.”

Cody Knotts was in banking, but it wasn’t working out. Every day he would drive past the Tri-C campus, since his employer offered tuition reimbursement, it wasn’t long before he started taking classes. “I went back to Tri-C because it was a great tuition and great opportunities.”

Next thing, he acquires two Associates degrees, and he’s hired by Tri-C to work on an Ameri-Corps program to meet one-on-one with students who are at risk for dropping out. Cool Cleveland spoke with Cody while he was enjoying himself at the Tri-C Alumni & Friends tailgate before a recent Browns homegame, complete with food and drink. Tri-C.edu/alumni

Downtown Chipotle is a Milestone of Sorts for Latest Comeback Of almost more concern is the announcement of another Chipotle opening in Kamm’s Corner. Following the chain/big box corporate mantra of locating as close as possible to successful small business operations – in this case Si Senor – with the SOLE purpose of co-opting the independent’s customer base….

Only the French Quarter can sustain a chainless boundary. Cleveland needs to enthusiastically, loudly and maybe even a little obnoxiously welcome and celebrate the arrival of chains. If Clevelanders know what’s good for their city they will support chains…
