Turkish Drummer Raquy Danziger Brings her Ensemble to the BOP STOP

Istanbul-based musician/performer/educator Raquy Danziger specializes in Turkish-style darbuka/dumbek drumming, featuring the middle-eastern goblet drum. She leads a band that performs original music that draws on a global array of rhythms and influences from Turkey, Egypt, Iran and India, adding funk, samba and hip hop influences. In them she also plays the King Kemenche Tarhu, a 12-string version of the Persian spike fiddle.

She and her ensemble featuring three drummers, will perform a show at the Bop Stop that includes theatrical elements, a light show and audience participation. Tickets are $12. For those intrigued by the music, Raquy, who heads a music academy she founded in Istanbul, will be offering a master class at 6pm. Tickets are $20.
