Cleveland Public Theatre’s STEP (Student Theatre Enrichment Program) project, now in its 22nd year, is about engaging teens in the urban community and then taking their work back out to the community. It’s a job-training program where teens work together, under the guidance of theater professionals, to create and mount productions that speak to their concerns.

This year’s production, Awakening Heart, is based on the Sumarian epic of Gilgamesh, about a half-man/half/god ruler who confronts issues of humanity vs. wealth and power. The production includes original music and dance. It tours area parks, kicking off Tue 8/2 at Herman Park and running through Fri 8/12. Find a full schedule of performances and locations here. All performances are free.
