Percussion Master Tatsuya Nakatani Performs With Local Ensemble at the BOP STOP

Tatsuya

Sat 7/30 @ 9PM

Pennsylvania’s Tatsuya Nakatani is a master of musical percussion including gongs, cymbals, drums, bells, singing bowls and found and homemade objects. With over 60 recordings since the late ’90s, and an international schedule of touring, lectures, workshops and master classes, he’s become well-known in his segment of the music world.

His bio describes his approach as “visceral, non-linear and intuitively primitive, expressing an unusually strong spirit while avoiding any categorization… steeped in the sensibilities of free improvisation, experimental music, jazz, rock, and noise, yet retains the sense of space and quiet beauty found in traditional Japanese folk music.”

For his performance to the Bop Stop, he’ll collaborate with an ensemble of northeast Ohio musicians: Alex Henry on sax, Peggy Latkovich on keyboard, Lisa Miralia on electronics and synth, Rick Kodramaz on bass, Mike Sopko on guitar and Don Volenik on trumpet. Ryan Kuehn aka Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman will open with an experimental electronic set. Tickets are $10.
