Jazz vocalist Vanessa Rubin left Cleveland to attend The Ohio State University in the ’70s, and from there, she made her way to New York City to pursue musical opportunities. She’s done pretty well, performing with jazz legends like Toots Thielemans, Grover Washington, Jr., Herbie Hancock, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Jazz Crusaders.

She’s also become known for her skillful interpretations of Billie Holiday tunes, which she’s performed both as part of a one-woman show channeling Holiday in her own voice, and in her concert and nightclub sets. But she can navigate a lot of musical ground in her shows, drawing all her experience together to deliver performances with both depth and breadth.

She’s making one of her regular sojourns back to Nighttown where she’ll perform with her quartet, featuring guitarist Perry Hughes, organist Duncan McMillan and drummer George Heid. Tickets are $30.
