The prestigious biennial Cleveland International Piano Competition is underway — a two-week musical feast for lovers of classical piano. First round performances continue through Wed 7/27; second round performances starting Thu 7/28 at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Gartner Auditorium. Semi-final performances take place Sun 7/31 and Mon 8/1 and the four finalists perform with the Escher Quartet in two sessions, Tue 8/2 and Wed 8/3. Those performances also take place at Gartner Auditorium.

The event culminates with those four finalists performing with the Cleveland Orchestra in two concerts at Severance Hall, Fri 8/5 and Sat 8/6, with two performing each night and the winner, who receives $50,000, a Carnegie Hall recital and professional career assistance, announced after the 8/6 performance. The awards ceremony takes place at Severance Hall Sun 8/7 when the four finalists will close the event with encore recitals.

The competition is also packed with auxiliary events, including master classes, films, a talk with previous winner Stanislaus Khristenko, and special showcases and concerts including the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo performing everything form Mozrt to Coldplay on Sat 7/30 and jazz pianist Dan Tepfer performing his Goldberg Variations/Variations Sun 7/31, both at the Maltz Performing Arts Center.
