Celebrate July 4 Again With Cleveland Orchestra’s Star-Spangled Spectacular at Public Square

StarSpangledSpectacular

Fri 7/29 @ 9PM

The Cleveland Orchestra’s annual July 4th Star-Spangled Spectacular couldn’t take place this year around the holiday weekend, due to preparations for the Republican National Convention and final work on Public Square. But it’s all good — we get to celebrate the 4th again, fireworks and all.

The 27th annual free concert on Public Square will take place instead this week. Loras John Schissel will conduct the orchestra in the usual crowd-pleasing program, which features all the patriotic and musical theater favorites that typically make up Independence Day concerts — The Star-Spangled Banner, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, some Sousa marches, some Gershwin, Kern, and Rodgers & Hammerstein standards from musicals like Porgy and Bess, The Sound of Music and Showboat. (Hey — where’s the 1812 Overture?!?) Baritone Norman Garrett joined the orchestra to handle the vocals.

There’ll be activities pre-concert starting at 6 and yes, there will be food trucks.
