Great Lakes Science Center’s OMNIMAX Takes Visitors on an Underwater Coral Reef Tour

HONOLULU, HI - JANUARY 15: A school of manini fish pass over a coral reef as a snorkeler swims over at Hanauma Bay on January 15, 2005 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Many coral reefs are dying from water pollution (from sewage and agricultural runoff), dredging off the coast, careless collecting of coral specimens, and sedimentation. Coral reefs are places of extraordinary and distinctive beauty, as anyone who has ever been snorkeling knows. They teem with creatures of all sizes and shapes in an array of colors. If you don’t have access to a coral reef — alas, none within easy driving distance of Cleveland — or snorkeling gear, head to the Great Lakes Science Center where The Last Reef: Cities Beneath the Sea opens at their OMNIMAX theater this week.

The filmmakers travelled underneath oceans around the world, from New York to Bahamas to Polynesia, to bring back footage of the species that make their homes in the reefs and remind us how urgent it is for us to act against climate change which puts these delicate ecosystems in jeopardy. The Last Reef will run through Mon 9/5.
