Wed 6/15-Wed 8/31

University Circle Inc. has announced the lineup for its popular Wade Oval Wednesdays series, which kicks off Wed 6/15 and runs through Wed 8/31 @ 6-9pm. Regulars at these events, which have been running for more than a decade, will see a few familiar names and a host of new ones, with musical styles ranging from original indie rock to bluegrass to jazz to salsa to zydeco.

The opener will feature Latin jazz performer Justo Saborit, followed by string-enhanced symphonic indie rockers Seafair on 6/22. June wraps up with WOW regulars — and record holders for the largest crowd last year — Cleveland reggae kings Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band.

The July schedule includes veteran light jazz/funk ensemble Forecast on 7/6; ’80s cover band the Spazmatics on 7/13; a special guest to be announced on 7/27; and Akron zydeco band Mo’Mojo on 7/27, which is also movie night. When the band concludes at 9pm, the film Tomorrowland will be shown on a large screen.

In August, look for Latin/salsa band Son Gitano on 8/3; Councilman Kevin Conwell & the Footprints playing Motown, blues and jazz on 8/10; a double bill of the old-time/traditional Americana of SpYder Stompers and Sugar Pie and Hoy Djang’s gypsy jazz on 8/17; newgrass trio Honeybucket on 8/24 with another movie, Zootopia, and, for the final night, the roots rock of Brent Kirby & His Luck, and another movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Wade Oval Wednesdays are all free; bring your blanket or chair. You’ll also find food booths and other vendors, along with tables from various local organizations, circling the Oval, so there’s plenty to eat and do in addition to listening to the band.
