Sista Sinema Shows Film About Queer Women of Color at Waterloo Arts Incubator

SistaSinema

Sat 5/21 @ 7PM

Sista Sinema is a national group dedicated to exposing more people to films about queer women of color; Cleveland’s chapter, launched four years ago, has the same goal. To that end, they’ll be screening Women and the Word: The Revival Movie, which tells the story of a 2012 event called The Revival that began in Washington as a group of 50 queer women and allies gathered for a poetry even that eventually became an eight-city tour. It depicts how these women worked to build a supportive community through the arts.

Appropriately, it’s screening at a new arts incubator space in the Waterloo Neighborhood called Twelve Literary and Performance Arts Incubator. It’ll start at 7pm with a “kick back” and potluck BBQ with drinks, burgers and hot dogs available for purchase, and guests invited to bring a side dish to share. The film will screen at 8pm, followed at 9:30 by a talkback and beats/spoken word open mic. It’s a $10 cash donation at the door, which will support the work of Sista Sinema and Twelve Literary and Performance Arts Incubator.
