You can hear plenty of serious jazz around northeast Ohio, given the glut of high-level jazz musicians living here. But sometimes even those musicians have to cut lose and do something that’s accessible and fun. That’s why some of them got together to form Red Light Roxy.

In this configuration, the group, fronted by slinky actress/singer Eileen Burns, who spent a year touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performs music associated with artists from the era when jazz and pop music intermingled: Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong and Peggy Lee, with copious selections from the ever-popular Great American Songbook and dashes of jump blues, boogie-woogie and R&B.

Burns is ably supported by some area jazz & rock veterans: pianist Joe Hunter, sax player Dave Sterner, guitarist Daris Adkins, drummer Glen Davis and bassist Demetrius Steinmetz. They make for great listening but they also play music that makes it hard to sit still. They’ll be at Nighttown. Admission is $15.
