The viola stands out in the orchestra less than many other instruments, but it’s an important element in the whole sound. The latest program in the Cleveland Orchestra’s Musical Rainbows series is called “The Victorious Viola.” It introduces children ages 3-6 to the role this stringed instrument plays. Cleveland Orchestra violist Lembi Veskimets joins host/narrator Maryann Nagel and pianist Laura Silverman to show how the instrument works, play some short selections and get the kids joining in with the music.
The programs are a half hour long, geared to a pre-school attention span, and they take place in the smaller and more intimate — and for kids less intimidating — Reinberger Chamber Hall at Severance Hall. Tickets are $7.
