Learn About the Science of Sports at SportsArena at the Great Lakes Science Center

Sports Arena

Sat 5/28-Mon 9/5

How can bodies do such amazing feats — run marathons, climb mountains, turn those multiple midair somersaults in gymnastics? Those are some of the questions that SportsArena, the new exhibit opening at the Great Lakes Science Center, aims to answer.

It delves into the science of sports through a series of interactive exhibits where you can test your own speed, endurance, strength and agility, and learn ways to perform even better. You can play green-screen soccer, volleyball, hockey or basketball with actual athletes; try a 10-meter dash against a friend, a dinosaur, a cheetah (the fastest land animal) or images of Olympic runner Jackie Joyner Kersey; walk an competition gymnastics balance beam; see how long you can balance on an electronic teeter board; test your dancing skills; find out how diet contributes to performance; and even learn what it takes to be a judge.

That’s only a small sample of the exhibits so give yourself time when you visit. The exhibit will be at the Great Lakes Science Center through Labor Day, and it’s free with regular admission.
