Japanese Experimental Electronics Musician Otomo Yoshihide Performs @TransformerStat

Otomo

Mon 5/9 @ 7:30PM

Japanese experimental musician Otomo Yoshihide, now 57, played jazz and punk while at university in Toyko. But his interest in the electronics that informs his music now began when he was a kid. To that he added two more interests: Japanese popular music of the World War II era, and the evolution of Chinese musical instruments during the Cultural Revolution.

He soon began his journey into improvised and sampled music and performed with a series of experimental bands, including several he is involved with now. He pulls together all his disparate influences into his solo electronics performances, such as the one he’ll be doing at the Transformer Station. Tickets are $25.
