Farmers Markets Around the Region Start Their Summer Seasons

Geauga Fresh Market

Now that the weather’s warm and crops are starting to sprout, the trickle of early farmers markets becomes a flood. Several have their season openings this Saturday.

The Geauga Fresh Farmers Market starts its 15th season in South Russell from 9am-noon at the South Russell Village Hall and runs through 10/15. In addition to edibles, the market offers hanging baskets, soaps and lotions and artisan items, in case you are still looking for a Mother’s Day gift. And master gardeners from the Ohio State University Extension will be there, doing demonstrations and answering questions about your gardening issues.

The Farmers Market at the Frostville Museum in North Olmsted kicks off from 9am-1pm with local farmers, producers, artisans and vendors who grow and/or produce their own goods. Each week there are also children’s activities, cooking demos and speakers each week.

And finally, the Countryside Farmers Market, which has run less frequent indoor winter markets, returns to Howe Meadow for its weekly summer markets from 9am-noon. It’s right in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park with its homestead farms, whose products you can find at the market. And just a note: if you are deep into farmers markets and want to get more involved, the Countryside Market is looking for an administrative coordinator. Send a letter, resume and three professional references to Darwin Kelsey at DKelsey@CVCountryside.org.
