Documentary ‘Trapped’ Exposes Attacks on Women’s Rights

Trapped

Thu 6/2 @ 6PM

If you are an advocate for women’s reproductive freedom, and you missed the screening of the documentary Trapped at the Cleveland International Film Festival, you’ve got another chance to see it. Reproductive health services clinic Preterm, which partnered with Planned Parenthood to sponsor the film at CIFF, is again partnering with PP, as well as NARAL Pro Choice Ohio, to host another screening at its offices.

The new film, which snagged the Sundance Special Jury Prize for a U.S. Documentary, couldn’t be more pertinent to Ohio, whose rabidly anti-choice legislature and governor have passed 16 laws limiting women’s freedom in the last five years. It shows what clinics — and women — are facing in Texas (which is the only state to close more clinics than Ohio), Alabama and Mississippi, as pointless restrictions having nothing to do with women’s health and safety threaten their ability to provide services women need to keep their lives on track.

The film will be followed by a discussion of the oppressive measures already passed and in the pipeline in Ohio and writing to elected officials to ask them to stop restricting choice for non-affluent women. The event is free.
