When Jovana Batkovic took off and shook the dust of Cleveland off her boots, she left local buzz band HotChaCha without a singer and disappointed a lot of local indie rock fans who expected the band to make a big impact outside Cleveland.
But the other members quickly regrouped to form the equally formidable Goldmines, with Mandy (Aramouni) Look and Jeanna Lax on guitars, Heather Gmucs on bass and Rosanna Safos on drums. They released a full-length album Drag in late 2013, then took a hiatus as Aramouni left town for a while. Back together, they’ve continued to create their forcefully moody music that rocks and drones at the same time. They’ve recently done some out-of-town dates and plan to release their sophomore album this year.
They’ll be performing at the Beachland Tavern with two other local indie rocker bands Banging Fragiles and Fever Child. Check them out to see how far they’ve come. Admission is $8.
