Vegan Iron Chef Kicks Off Earth Day Activities at Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts

Sun 4/17 @ 1-5PM

Are you tired of those Iron Chef competitions where they sling around hunks of meat? Me too. The 8th Annual Vegan Iron Chef Competition, hosted by Kent’s Standing Rock Cultural Arts in cooperation with the Kent Natural Goods Co-op and Seven Grains Market, should be more to your liking.

Taking place at the Venue Banquet Center in Tallmadge, the free event, which headlines the 10th annual “Who’s Your Mama?” Earth Day and Environmental Film Festival, aims to educates people about how a vegan diet benefits both your health and the health of the environment.

Local restaurants and caterers will be offering samples of vegan food and Akron peace-and-love troubadour Zach Freidhof will be providing the music. The main event, from 2-5pm, will feature six area chefs cooking meals with vegan ingredients (including a mystery ingredient they’ll find out about when they arrive at their stations) to be sampled and voted on by a panel of local expert judges.

The “Who’s Your Mama?” environmental film festival takes place Fri 4/22 at KIVA Auditorium at the KSU Student Center, followed the next day Sat 4/23 by a block party on Main Street in downtown Kent, featuring art, poetry, alternative energy displays, environmental vendors, music and a parade.
