The @ClevePOPSOhio Orchestra Pays Tribute to George Gershwin @SeveranceHall

George Gershwin

Fri 4/29 @ 8PM

Few American composers were as talented as George Gershwin, who is beloved for his contribution to jazz, pop and classical music, with which he forged a style distinctively his own. He was known for compositions such as Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris, the score to Porgy and Bess, and countless pop standards such as “Someone to Watch over Me” and “The Man I Love” that he co-wrote with his lyricist brother Ira. The quantity of indelible music he produced is especially astonishing considering his tragic early death at age 38 from brain cancer.

Tonight at Severance Hall, director Carl Topilow will lead the Cleveland Pops Orchestra in an Evening With Gershwin. It will feature special guest, pianist Richard Glazier, who is known as a Gershwin expert and a historian of American popular song in general. Tickets are $29-$60.
