It’s going to be a big celebration when the Cleveland Jazz orchestra heads back to PlayhouseSquare for their next concert at the Ohio Theatre. Titled “Caliente! The Buena Vista Social Club Experience,” the program will pay tribute to the Havana club where musicians from all around the Caribbean met in the 1940s to blend their diverse styles of jazz and Latin music. New York-based Latin jazz percussionist Bobby Sanabria will be joining the group as special guest performer and conductor; expect other special guests as well. Tickets are $25-$50.

Prior to the concert from 5:30-7:30pm, CJO will hold a benefit honoring CJO trumpeter and former CJO artistic director (1994-2009) Jack Schantz. There’ll be music from CJO’s Discovery Jazz Quartet, a chance to meet CJO artistic directors past and present, a silent auction and an announcement of the upcoming season. It takes pace at Cibreo Privata at PlayhouseSquare. Go here for more information.
