Slow Roll Cleveland Kicks Off 2016 Season at UH Community Bike Fest

Sun 5/1 @ 11AM

Slow Roll Cleveland’s mission is to get more people riding bikes for fun and health. The group, now in its third year, is going after the ordinary bike rider who wants to enjoy the scenery and explore Cleveland neighborhoods, not the one who has spent thousands of dollars on gear or the hot shots who race through the streets during the Critical Mass rides.

The group is kicking off its 2016 season of weekly rides with a 10-mile, slow-paced ride that will take people through the neighborhoods surrounding University Circle. It departs at 1pm from the Community Bike Fest sponsored by University Hospitals and taking place outside UH’s campus on Euclid Avenue. It will return to University Circle in approximately an hour and a half to the nearby Uptown district where riders can hang out for post-ride food and drinks. This event is the first of a series Slow Roll Cleveland will be doing with University Hospitals. From June through September, the second Monday ride will kick off at the UH campus.

But you’ll want to come early and enjoy the UH Community Bike Fest. It starts at 11AM and will feature exhibitors from various wellness- and sustainability-related organizations as well as participation from Bike Cleveland, Lakewood’s Beat Cycles and the Ohio City Bike Co-op. It will include bike safety demonstrations, helmet fitting, pre-riding stretching exercises, water stations for filling water bottles and a bike check station to give your bike a “physical” before the ride. It’s free.
