Funk-metal band Unified Culture was a pretty big deal in Cleveland’s ’90s heavy music scene. The group released a couple of CDs in the mid ’90s, even while the success of vocalist Jason Popson’s “side project” Mushroomhead began to dominate his priorities.
The group’s profile diminished after the turn of the millennium, although they’re reared their rockin’ heads from time to time. They’ll be doing this week for a 25th anniversary show at the Agora. The group includes three original members: Popson; guitarist Mike Martini, now lead vocalist for Cleveland’s Venomin James; and bassist Craig Martini, who is currently based in Las Vegas and has played with Colin Hay and Paul Gilbert, along with ex-Spudmonsters drummer Eric Matthews, now also with Venomin James.
Jus Mic, Drunkin Funk and Psycho Plantation open. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
