Cleveland’s @NoExitNewMusic Ensemble Pays Tribute to Erik Satie @SPACESGallery @HeightsArts

Fri 4/8 @ 8PM

Sat 4/16 @ 8PM

Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Brahms are great. But luckily, Cleveland also has ensembles such as the No Exit New Music Ensemble dedicated to offering classical music programs featuring pieces that are new and adventurous.

The group’s latest program, Music, Mind, Mirth & Mayhem, will celebrate the legacy of late 19th-century/early 20th century oddball avant-garde composer Erik Satie. Satie has been linked to the development of such artistic movements as Dada, Surrealism and minimalism, and frequently took a prankish, conceptual approach to his work.

It will feature seven newly commissioned pieces in which each composer presents his view of Satie and reflects on how his influence has shaped him. The composers include Geoffrey Burleson, David Rakowski, Robert Honstein, Kevin Eppich, James Praznik and Timothy Beyer. The program will also feature an improvisation based on Satie’s Vexations, and works by Heinz Holliger, Georges Delerue, and the world premiere of Buck McDaniel’s Ride.

The program will be performed at SPACES Fri 4/8 and repeated at Heights Arts Sat 4/16. Both performances are free.
