Fri 4/1 @ 6-8PM

Perspectives: The Art of Seth Chwast; Portraits of Seth Chwast at work by photographer Herbert Ascherman, which opens with a reception Fri 4/1 and runs through Sat 5/7 at the Valley Art Center, is an intriguing collaboration. Ascherman is one of the area’s most acclaimed and accomplished veteran photographers, with a special affinity for black-and-white portrait photography. Seth Chwast is a young painter with autism who found means of expression through his art.

Says Ascherman, “Perspectives exemplifies the efforts of one attentive artist to delve into the mind of another. In this case, Seth’s autism is infused within his paintings, allowing his internal visions to manifest in 34 external images. Paired with 34 black and white portrait studies selected from over 1,000 images taken throughout 2015, Perspectives is the outward manifestation of the inward process. Although a willing participant in the portrait process, Seth is photographed as much as a subject of an artist’s eye as he is the casual participant transiting his own inner world.”

The reception is free and open to the public and will feature music by jazz guitarist Vince Menti.
