Cleveland comedian Mike Polk Jr would probably not be at the top of many lists of the most romantic guys in Cleveland. His gig is being funny.
But to get people in the mood for Valentine’s Day he’s preparing to be your funny Valentine. He and fellow comedian Zachariah Durr will be hosting a pair of “Romantic Encounters” dating game evenings, one at the Happy Dog in Gordon Square on Wednesday and another on the east side at the Grog Shop (according to Polk the most opulent club on Earth”) on Thursday.
“We are performing this bad boy on consecutive nights on the West Side and East Side,” they say. “This is a conscious choice because we recognize that people from different sides of town SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DATE EACH OTHER OR, GOD FORBID, BREED!”
Polk and Durr promise “a night of romance, singing and glamorous prizes.” You can come just to watch or sign up at the door to go up on stage and compete for a dream date. Admission is $5 at the Happy Dog, $10 at the Grog Shop, apparently reflecting the opulence of the locale.
