Standing Rock Short Film Fest @Kent_SRCA Returns @KentStage

Sat 1/30 @ 8PM

The Standing Rock Short Film Festival, now in its 13th year of being presented by Kent-based Standing Rock Cultural Arts, pulls together a crazy-quilt of films from around the world. You can always expect to find animated films, music videos, short documentaries, comedy, narrative films, abstract experimental pieces and even silent films with live musical accompaniment.

This year, the festival’s director, local video artist Cindy Penter, has assembled films from Israel, Poland, London, Turkey, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York — and less exotic places like Maple Heights and Kent.

We’re most intrigued by See Rock City, put together by Akron’s Christopher Butler of the legendary bands Tin Huey and the Waitresses. The nearly 13-minute documentary is about a 1970s Kent house party and features archival footage by Alan D. Peters actually shot at this party. See what Kent was like in the days when it was fertilizing the music of bands like Devo. Laugh at the ’70s clothes and hairstyles! Following the screening the cast and crew will do a panel discussion and Q &A.

The entire event takes place at the Kent Stage. Tickets are $10, $5 for students and seniors.
