Western Reserve Historical Society Hosts Karl Rove

Karl Rove

Sat 12/12 @ 11AM-1PM

The name “Karl Rove” evokes strong feelings, pro and con, from virtually everyone with the slightest interest in national politics. He was, of course, the man who engineered George W. Bush’s ascent to the White House and served in that administration as a behind-the-scenes advisor/director/strings-puller. His official title was “senior advisor.” Bush famously dubbed him “Turdblossom” and those who opposed Bush and his policies agreed it was appropriate.

Although he’s still used as a boogieman in Democratic fundraising letters, Rove’s profile has been much lower lately — many last saw him on Fox News on election night in 2012 predicting that once Ohio’s votes were counted, Mitt Romney would be victorious.

But he’s been busy. He’s penned a newly published book titled The Triumph of William McKinley: Why the Election of 1896 Still Matters, in which he posits that there were many similarities between then and today’s political, economic and social climate, and that the lessons of that election are still relevant.

Rove will be at the Western Reserve Historical Society’s Cleveland History Center to talk about his research, some of which was done at the WRHS since McKinley was born in Niles outside Youngstown and later lived in Canton. Then he’ll be signing copies of the book.

Tickets are $35, which includes museum admission, preferred seating and a copy of the books. Additional copies will be available at the museum store. Go here to reserve advance tickets.
