The Oven Is Fired Up! @Citizen_Pie Brings Neapolitan-Style Pizza to Waterloo Road

The new Waterloo Road pizzeria Citizen Pie, which just opened this week, hasn’t been as long in the making as the eatery it replaced, Billy’s BBQ, which was on the drawing board for seven years and closed less than two years later. But hopefully it will be longer lasting.

Velvet Tango Room owner Paulius Nasvytis and his partners, Claudia Young and chef Vytauras Sasnauskas, announced in the spring their plans for a wood-fired Neapolitan-style gourmet pizza place in the space directly across from the Beachland Ballroom. They said it would open in the fall, and it did. That’s a good sign. We tried the pizza, which they’ve been passing out around the neighborhood in the past few weeks as they’ve been taking the oven for a test drive. It’s delicious. That’s an even better sign.

The menu features just over a dozen specialty pizzas, more than half of them vegetarian, a meat and a vegetable calzone, a pair of sweets and sodas and espressos. They plan to add alcoholic beverages as soon as their liquor license comes through. They’re open Monday-Saturday noon-9pm.
