It’s that time of the year: the Ohio City Singers come out of hibernation.

Formed by local singer/songwriter Chris Allen more than a decade ago, the band pulls together a loose collective of his musician friends, including many of the same players who perform in that other seasonal band he’s part of, the St. Patrick’s Day-oriented Boys from the County Hell.

The group performs cheerfully rag-tag versions of popular holiday tunes along with many self-penned noels which they’ve released on several albums. The most recent was 2013’s A Town Called Christmas, produced by Canton-based Don Dixon, who is also part of the band and who has worked with bands like REM and the Smithereens.

The group always has a busy December including an always-sold-out show at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall (Sorry, it’s already sold out this year.) But you can catch them at a family-friendly matinee at the Music Box Supper Club this afternoon. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

You can also catch them at Vosh in Lakewood on Fri 12/18 & Sat 12/19 @ 9PM and their traditional holiday send-off party at the Stone Mad Pub in Gordon Square Sun 12/20 @ 6PM.
