Hallelujah! It’s that time again when we’re overrun with opportunities to hear George Friderik Handel’s 1741 oratorio Messiah. Although it touches only briefly on the birth of Christ, being rather a general celebration of his power, it’s come to be associated with Christmas.

There are sing-along Messiahs for those who want to lift their own voices in this familiar piece, and then there are the performances by the professionals to marvel at: the Cleveland Orchestra, for instance. Robert Porco will conduct the orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra Chamber Chorus, soprano Yulia Van Doren, mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson, tenor John Tessier and bass-baritone Nathan Berg in three performance at Severance Hall where you can sit back and let the pros handle it.

Tickets are $29-$149.
