An annual tradition in Cleveland’s heavy metal community is the Metal Holiday Food Drive, taking place for the 7th year at the Beachland Ballroom — and this year in the Tavern as well for an even more impressive lineup of heavy local talent.
Presented by Auburn Records, WJCU 88.7 FM, the Exchange and German fan of Cleveland metal Iron Ingo Stührenberg, the event will offer an 11-band lineup hosted by Cleveland metal queen Chris Emig, vocalist for Olathia, who will also be performing. The bands range from veteran headbangers like Embalmer to Vandallus (featuring members of Eternal Legacy and Midnight) who will be making their debut at this show.
There’ll also be performances by the Red Hot Heathens burlesque and School of Rock doing a Black Sabbath set and an appearance by Playboy model Daniella Dior.
The entire evening is free and all ages, and there’s no under-21 fee for the night. (Thank the middle-aged metal fans who make this one of the club’s best beer-selling nights of the year). In return for all this free entertainment, they’re asking for donations — both food and cash — for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and the Friends of the Cleveland Kennel. They’re hoping to drive truckloads of people food to the first and truckloads of pet food to the latter. And they set a record for poundage last year that they hope to top this year. So chip in!
They note, “Our benefit show this year is dedicated in loving memory of our fallen Cleveland metal brother Jim Konya (1971-2015) R.I.P.”
