‘Black Nativity’ Will Give the Christmas Story a Gospel Flavor @Karamu

BlackNativity

Fri 12/4-Sun 12/27

One of the most beloved holiday traditions at Karamu’s theater is its holiday performance of Black Nativity. It’s performed the show 30 previous times and this year makes the 31st. The show was originally put together by Karamu alumni Langston Hughes and performed off-Broadway in 1961. It utilizes dance, poetry, speeches, drumming, gospel music and spirituals to tell the story of Jesus Christ’s birth.

Richard H. Morris, Jr. directed this production, Terrence Greene oversaw the choreography and Glenn Brackens was musical director for this staging of the popular production. Hurry and get your tickets because it’s always a big hit with area theatergoers.

It will be performed Fri 12/4 through Sun 12/27 Thursdays and Friday @ 7:30pm, Saturdays @ 3 and 7:30pm and Sundays @ 3pm. Tickets are $37; $32 for seniors; $15 for youth through college with ID.
