The tragic story of Lucretia has been told by everyone from Shakespeare to Benjamin Britten, whose rarely-performed 1946 opera related the destruction of innocence with the devastation of WWII.
When Oberlin Opera Theatre decided to mount it, they marshaled the resources of their world-class college to include accompanying programming from musicological and theoretical readings to panel discussions to a conversation about tragic depictions of women throughout history at the Allen Memorial Art Museum.
TheĀ widely respected opera and accompanying programs can be seen 11/11-15 at Hall Auditorium, and throughout campus.
