It was ten years ago that Nightgown bartender Bonnie Flinner decided to spread her wings and start her establishment. She bought a Tremont bar with a long history across from the neighborhood’s picturesque Lincoln Park and dubbed it Prosperity Social Club.

There she offered a laidback atmosphere and music performances, well-prepared pub-style foods inspired by the bar’s Eastern European past, a full bar and a beautiful back patio for lingering over that food and drink on a beautiful evening.

Prosperity will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend. Guests of honor will be Richard and Theresa Dembowski, son and daughter-in-law of original owner Stan Dembowski. He opened Dempsey’s Oasis at the location in 1938, catering the ethnic, blue-collar community that lived in Tremont at the time.

Richard and Theresa ran the bar for 33 years before selling it to Flinner, and they’ll be coming to greet former customers and share stories of the past with new customers. She’s urging guests to bring photos of the neighborhood which will be scanned to create a Prosperity collage to be displayed in the club.

“Many people have fond recollections of this place that make it special to them,” says Flinner. “I want to learn more about the building, the neighborhood and the city through their stories and I want to preserve those memories for posterity.” The Cleveland State University Center for Public History & Digital Humanities will be there to recording memories for their digital archives.

Brunch and a full bar will be available. The club will have free coffee, soft drinks, pastry and birthday cake on hand. The event is free.
