Soundgarden Singer @ChrisCornell Performs Acoustic Solo Show at Lakewood Civic Auditorium

As lead singer for Soundgarden, Chris Cornell was one of the leading lights, architects and superstars of the Seattle grunge scene. While the band, which emerged in the mid-80s, was later denigrated by purists as too metal (and too Led Zeppelin-influenced), that overlooked the fact that heavy metal was the bedrock of grunge. Soundgarden was in fact one of grunge’s most memorable bands and one whose work — especially 1991’s Badmotorfinger and their 1994 commercial breakthrough Superunknown — is at its best totally unforgettable.

Soundgarden broke up in 1997 (they’ve recently done some reunion stuff) and Cornell went on to a solo career, along with a stint in the 2000s with Audioslave with members of Rage Against the Machine. His solo work has allowed him to explore more nuances in his rangy, multi-toned vocal instrument. That should certainly be shown to best advantage in the acoustic tour he’s embarked upon in support of his new solo release Higher Truth. He’ll be performing both material from that album and songs from his whole career.

The tour stops in northeast Ohio at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium. Tickets are $45-$52.50.
