Bluegrass-Influenced Roots Rocker @NoraJane Struthers Performs @AkronMusica

Fri 10/16 @ 8:30PM

Nora Jane Struthers & her band the Party Line have been making northeast Ohio a regular stop for a couple of years, playing venues ranging from Nighttown to the Beachland Tavern to Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge to the Blue Sky Festival in Kirtland. Their crisp, natural-sounding roots music seems to be a good fit for a lot of venues — and now they’ll be at Musica in Akron, which primarily focuses on indie rock.

Bandleader Struthers is a 31-year-old former English teacher who decided about eight years ago to give up her job teaching in Brooklyn to move to Nashville to focus on building a music career based on her sympathetically observed bluegrass- and rock-influenced tunes and unfussy soprano. A first-place win at the 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival caused a lot of people to sit up and take notice, and the band’s extensive touring — as evidenced by the number of times she’s been in this area — earned them a following.

Recently, Struthers easily cleared and exceeded her $40,000 Kickstarter goal to fund the February 2015 release of the band’s third album Wake, which has garnered them even more positive reviews and attention. If you haven’t caught Struthers’ fresh and engaging performance yet, it’s time.

Christopher Paul Stelling and Austin Wolfe & Bad Hounds will open the Musica Show. Tickets are $12.
