For those who like unadorned old-time/bluegrass music that sounds like it came straight from a front porch in the rural south, the Lowest Pair may be just your thing. Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee are a singing and banjo-playing duo from Olympia, Washington who lead a rustic, DIY lifestyle that’s reflected in their sound.

Their earthy tunes and the blend Winter’s tremulous keen with Lee’s pinched bleat, backed by their impressively deft instrumental work, add up to a spare but well-honed performance bathed in the aura of a depression-era Walker Evans photo, but with an unobtrusive hint that they are also commenting on that culture from a little distance.

They’ve clearly found a following here in northeast Ohio at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall. They participated in the Banjo Babes tour there in March, returned in April to showcase their latest album, The Sacred Heart Sessions, and now they’re back to play the same venue.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
