Akron musician Ryan Humbert always has something new up his sleeve. He performs his own music, which he’s released on numerous albums, as an acoustic solo act and with his band. He’s put on special tribute shows to favorite influences such as Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, and produced a string of Christmas benefit shows that are always different and frequently feature special guests. (This year’s, at the Akron Civic Theatre, are 12/20 & 12/21).

His latest project, Shooter Sharp & the Shootouts, makes its debut this week at the Happy Dog at the Euclid Tavern.

“As of late, I’ve been listening to tons of country music and not the cookie-cutter bro-country that is being force fed to country music fans these days, mind you,” he says. “I’ve been listening to Buck and Merle, Patsy and Webb, Ernest and Hank, Willie and Porter, Waylon and The Possum: Country music when it was still COUNTRY. Maybe you’ve seen me share some articles or thoughts here on Facebook about modern country music. Well, I’m no longer going to just sit back and complain about it.”

Instead, he’ll be performing that classic country/honky-tonky music as a sideline with his new band: guitarist Brian Poston and bassist Dan Nauss from his regular band and drummer Dylan Gomez from the Joe Vitale Jr. band.

Admission is $5.
