This has been quite a summer for the LGBT community, following the Supreme Court’s Obergefell vs. Hodges decision which legalized same-sex marriage in the few remaining states that had not done so — including Ohio.  Many of us know happy couples, many of them together for years, who have gone down to the courthouse to get their license (luckily they have praised the courtesy and helpfulness of the officials there, unlike a certain county clerk in Tennessee who seems hellbent on being the poster child for bigotry).

And while Cleveland’s annual Pride celebration, scheduled for the day after the decision, was wiped out by a storm, it was rescheduled for early August when the weather was beautiful and thousands turned out to enjoy the day at Voinovich Park (including the couple pictured above).

Today the city of Cleveland will celebrate its 7th annual LGBT Heritage Day. Leaders of the LGBT community will be recognized in the rotunda of Cleveland City Hall, followed by food, drink, music and a short presentation by special guests.

It’s free and all open-minded people are invited.
