No matter what the season, there’s a drinking event happening somewhere in town. Not that that’s a bad thing… at all. Summer was all about wine and summery beer and, with fall around the corner, now’s the time to start thinking pumpkin beer and CIDER.

Yes, cider. The hard stuff. Try all the cider your palate desires at Drink the District’s popular Rock the Core Cider & Beer Fest. This cider-centric event features cider & beer tastings, a live DJ, backyard games, and plenty of food trucks. Over 30 ciders will be on hand, along with over 20 beers from local and national breweries.

We spoke with Diana Alvarez, Marketing Associate at Drink the District, LLC, about the nature of the event and why it’s a must-experience good time.

CoolCleveland: What was the impetus for hosting a cider fest?

Diana Alvarez: Cider has been growing in popularity over the last few years, and with it, we’ve seen new craft cideries appear. Ohio is at the forefront of this exciting movement here in the United States, so it made sense to bring a cider-centric festival to Cleveland.

What can attendees expect? Why should this event be on people’s agendas?

Attendees can expect a great time at an affordable price. Rock the Core will feature tastings of over 30 ciders and 20 beers, live dueling pianos, your favorite local food trucks, and classic yard games. With stunning views of the lake from our location at Voinovich Park, Rock the Core is a party you don’t want to miss!

How were food trucks and breweries chosen?

We like to promote local and craft breweries and cideries, so we always reach out to local favorites, like Griffin Cider Works here in Cleveland. We like to have a good balance of beers, as well as some exciting new flavors- keep your eyes peeled for some pear ciders, too!

In our hometown Washington DC, food trucks are a huge part of the food scene. We always look for the best variety of food trucks in every city to come to our festivals. This year at Rock the Core we have Betty’s burgers, B&M Bar-B-Que, and Fired up Taco truck, to name a few!

Most interesting cider?

We have some interesting flavors for Rock the Core Cleveland, including A Caramel Apple Cider by Mad Moon, a grapefruit cider from Stiegl, and a Pineapple cider from Ace!
