Help Clean Up the Protected Ecosystem at Mentor Headlands

Headlands

Sat 9/26 @ 9AM-noon

There are lots of ways to clean beaches. Large public beaches rely on heavy machinery while smaller beaches are the targets of those popular Adopt-a-Beach cleanups sponsored by the Alliance for the Great Lakes in which citizens can help clean up a beach like Euclid Beach.

But the sand dunes at Mentor Headlands require special handling because they are the basis of a protected ecosystem. Once a month, Sierra Club volunteers join up to clean up the nature preserve area there. You can join them in hiking the area, while keeping it free from trash and debris. They’re provide the gloves, trash container, pickers, snacks and water cooler; you provide sensible, sunscreen, bug spray and water bottles. It’s family-friendly too, so bring the kids and get them started early on thinking about how we treat our environment.

Meet at the northeast corner of the Mentor Headlands parking lot. And they’d like you to RSVP so they know what kind of supplies to bring.
