FireFish

It’s not the first time this place is going up in flames. And I know it won’t be the last. But the inaugural FireFish Festival of fire, art & water, led by the venerable arts pioneer James Levin, promises to light up Lorain, its Black River, and our imaginations.

Just as esteemed, visual arts curator Henry Adams is honored by ARTneo in their hot new venue at 78th Street Studios; catch our feature and video. Robert Maschke’s 1point618 Gallery in Gordon Square presents the fourth show of local Jenniffer Omaitz while MOCA opens with work by Korean artist Do Ho Suh, Israeli multi-media artist Nevet Yitzhak and international composer Fatima Al Qadiri.

Music is also smoking hot this week, with Frode Gjerstad leading the trio Tipple at the BOP STOP, where The Thing set things on fire, while sonic artist Ellen Fullman performs her Long String Instrument at Transformer Station, and the FiveOne Experimental Orchestra performs in the Flower Child vintage store. Hold the date for our first ever high-end audio listening event on 10/9-10 at the Aloft Hotel, where you can hear what you’ve been missing on some hot sound systems.

Light things up with Festa Gervasi in Canton, burn the midnight oil at the final Night Market of the year in AsiaTown, and be there for the first Ohio City Street Festival and the last Walnut Wednesdays of the season. Because it’s up to you to keep the fires burning. —Thomas Mulready
