Cleveland-based indie folk-pop quartet The Lighthouse and the Whaler has, in its seven years together, attracted more national attention than the average Cleveland band. That’s due to two strong albums — their self-titled 2010 disc and 2013’s This Is an Adventure — that blend a wistful introspective feel with often grandiose production and arrangements that sometimes utilizing strings and synths.

They’ve also been willing and/or able to tour behind those albums, which always helps attract attention. They’ve had a few personnel changes along the way and occasionally added other guest musicians before they settled into the current lineup of founder/vocalist Michael LoPresti, drummer Matthew LoPresti, bassist Ryan Walker and multi-instrumentalist Mark Porostowski.

Now the group is about to release its third full-length disc titled Mont Royal, which they recorded earlier this year in Montreal with producer Marcus Paquin. They’ll be playing a record release show at the Beachland Ballroom, then get ready to launch a month-long tour in mid-September that will take them from one coast to the other. Expect to hear even more about them in the future.

Nonaphoenix opens for them at the Beachland. Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door.
