Taste Tomatoes You Didn’t Know Existed @CVCountryside Farmers Market

Tomato Tasting

Sat 8/29 @ 9AM-noon

This is the time of year when the tomato harvest is overwhelming, piling up in kitchens. So you may think you’ve seen all the tomatoes you need to see. But a lot of us have tried only a few varieties — a couple of basic beefsteak and cherry types and maybe a San Marzano sauce tomato — when, in fact, there are hundreds of types, red and pink, orange and yellow, purple and white, ranging from thumbnail-size to over a pound.

If  that intrigues you, head out to the Countryside Farmers Market at Howe Meadow where, for the 9th year, you can sample more than 30 varieties, cut up and ready to taste at one booth. All the varieties at the sample booth will be available from at least one market vendor.

“This event is especially fun for kids,” suggests markets manager Beth Knorr. “The huge variety of colors, shapes and sizes is exciting for them and a great way to expand their palates.”

To make the event even more special, Anthony Scolaro, chef at Medina’s One Eleven Bistro, will be demonstrating tomato-based recipes, and there’ll be live music from traditional folk band One String Short.
