Philly Folk Rockers @HopAlongTheBand Headline Sonic Session @Rock_Hall

HopAlong

Wed 8/12 @ 8PM

Singer Frances Quinlan started Hop Along as an acoustic solo project, but you’d never guess that from listening to the Philadelphia quartet’s music now. On their new album, Painted Shut, released on Omaha’s hip Saddle Creek label, Quinlan howls, rasps and yelps like a true rocker over the band’s clangorous guitar noise. The songs are intensely melodic but with a sweep that suggests her music probably always cried out for such grandiose treatment.

Hop Along will be performing at the Rock and Roll Hall and Fame and Museum as part of its Sonic Sessions series. Also on the bill are two terrific ensembles of northeast Ohio women: the moody yet driving Goldmines who rose from the ashes of the once red-hot local band HotChaCha and Akron sister duo ShiSho who play sly, perceptive acoustic punk.

The show is free.
