Mike’s Barn Holds Its 10th Annual Broadside of the Barn Show @MusicBoxCle

 Sun 9/6 @ 7:30PM

More than 20 years ago, Mike Yates launched Mike’s Barn in Lorain County, a venue to present both local and visiting blues, folk and jazz musicians usually in an informal jam session format. He was evicted from the barn several years ago and since then, has put on an occasional show at another venue.

One of the signature Mike’s Barn shows was its annual “Broadside of the Barn,” featuring a lineup of the area’s most talented women performers, which grew out of a jam session at the barn in 2005.

Yates is keeping it going with the 10th annual Broadside of the Barn, featuring some of the event’s regulars as well as some newcomers, taking place at the Music Box Supper Club. One familiar face — and voice — he’s bringing back that we haven’t seen a lot in these parts since she went on to greater success is blues singer Mary Bridget Davies (pictured), who parlayed her popular Janis Joplin tribute into a starring role in the Broadway show A Night With Janis Joplin.

Davies was at the original jam session, as were soul/jazz singers Ki Allen and Evelyn Wright, and blues singer Becky Boyd, all of whom will perform at this year’s show. Other performers will include jazz pianist Jackie Warren, folk/rock/blues singer/guitarist Tracy Marie, Brazilian singer/songwriter Luca Mundaca, teen singer/songwriter/guitarist Emily Keener, Oberlin student Caylen Bryant, music educator Megan Constantine and more to be announced. Obviously, it won’t be as informal as the shows at the barn but the array of talent is just as impressive.

Tickets are $25. Door opens at 5:30pm for dinner.
