Metal Parody Band @MacSabbath Plays @BeachlandCle Ballroom

Mac Sabbath

Heavy metal is serious stuff! It is not funny!

OK, it is. While heavy metal’s longevity and durability reflects its deep connection with its audience, it definitely has a silly side. That’s the side Los Angeles quartet Mac Sabbath exploits. Dressed as cartoon characters that reference McDonald’s, the band rewrites metal classics, predominantly those by Black Sabbath, with lyrics about fast food.

Sure, it sounds like a shtick that probably won’t have legs; the band’s been playing out only around a year and are only now doing their first full-scale U.S. tour. But the joke could be funny once — like their first Cleveland appearance at the Beachland Ballroom.

On the other hand, you never know. One of their opening acts, Queen of Hell, was formed in early 2013 as a metal spoof for the Lottery League, which mixes and matches band members for a single show. Queen of Hell has outlasted that April 2013 show by two years. The other opening act, Fuck You Pay Me, features Cleveland punk/metal veteran of many bands Tony Erba, and we know HE’S got legs!

Tickets are $15.
